Sequence 067 — Career-platform awareness only - recognize what governance platforms operationalize
Stage: Career Awareness
Source: CDMP Master Execution Manual — Chapter 3
When / purpose
After Chapter 3, learn what catalog/governance platforms are for without starting platform specialization.
What you should learn
- A platform can operationalize domains, stewardship, glossary, workflow, metadata and lineage.
- Tool terminology is not the governance model.
- Purview/Collibra awareness is useful now; serious hands-on waits until Chapter 12.
What to read / study
| Priority | Resource | Open | Use now | Stop point |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SHOULD | Data Governance Platform Career Evaluation | OPEN | Read executive decision + timing sections only. | Stop before hands-on Purview study. |
| REFERENCE | Career Data Governance Platforms folder | OPEN | Know where future resources will live. | Do not take platform courses yet. |
Do this in order
- Read why Purview is primary and Collibra secondary.
- Write five governance concepts a platform can operationalize.
- Write three things a governance platform does NOT replace.
- Close the platform materials and return to the chapter route.
Meridian application
Map one Chapter 3 governance artifact conceptually to “something a platform could support” without naming buttons or screens.
Create / save
One-page platform-awareness note.
Stop / boundary
Stay inside the current source/skill boundary. Do not pre-learn later chapters or engineering depth.
Completion gate
You can explain what a governance platform is for and why serious study is intentionally delayed.
