Sequence 025 — Chapter 1 applied deepening - lifecycle and issue diagnosis
Stage: Applied Lab Deepening
Source: CDMP Master Execution Manual — Chapter 1
When / purpose
Connect the Chapter 1 asset inventory to lifecycle thinking and distinguish the business problem from data symptoms and technology symptoms.
What you should learn
- A useful problem statement identifies the business consequence.
- Data symptoms and technology symptoms are related but not interchangeable.
- Lifecycle thinking asks what happens from creation/acquisition through use, retention, and disposition.
- Controls attach to specific lifecycle risks rather than to vague concerns.
Do this in order
- Reopen the Chapter 1 inventory from Sequence 024 and the Meridian Value/Risk & Lifecycle Responsibilities work.
- Choose important assets/issues and trace where each is created or acquired, used, changed, shared, retained, and eventually disposed of where applicable.
- For each issue, write the business consequence first.
- Separate the observed condition into: business consequence, data symptom, technology symptom, and likely Data Management issue.
- Identify the lifecycle stage where the risk appears and the control or responsibility that should address it.
- Use Requirements Before Technology to verify that you are not jumping from a symptom directly to a tool choice.
Evidence of completion
- Lifecycle trace for the selected Chapter 1 assets/issues.
- Problem statements that name the business consequence.
- Data and technology symptoms clearly distinguished.
- Relevant lifecycle risks and control/responsibility points identified.
Stop / boundary
Do not diagnose every Meridian problem or prescribe later-chapter solutions. Stay at Chapter 1 Data Management baseline depth.
Completion gate
You can explain why a technology symptom is not automatically the root Data Management problem.
