Sequence 024 — Chapter 1 applied deepening - data asset inventory
Stage: Applied Lab Deepening
Source: CDMP Master Execution Manual — Chapter 1
When / purpose
Make the idea of data as an enterprise asset concrete before leaving Chapter 1.
What you should learn
- A data-asset inventory is not merely a file list.
- Capture business purpose, owner/steward context, system/domain, value, and risk at practical depth.
- Separate source data from downstream copies or representations.
- Record uncertainty rather than inventing ownership or facts.
Do this in order
- Open the Meridian Chapter 1 Predict First & Build the Data Asset Inventory work.
- Select the important Meridian data assets needed for the Chapter 1 baseline.
- For each asset, record its business purpose, data domain, source/system context, owner/steward information if known, value, and material risk.
- Mark whether the item is a source/authoritative asset or a downstream copy/representation where that distinction matters.
- Mark unknown or disputed fields explicitly instead of guessing.
- Review each row and explain why the asset matters to Meridian as a business, not merely where the file/table lives.
Evidence of completion
- A usable Chapter 1 Meridian data-asset inventory.
- Business purpose, domain/system, value/risk, and ownership/steward context captured at appropriate depth.
- Source versus downstream-copy distinctions documented where relevant.
- Unknowns visibly identified rather than silently filled in.
Stop / boundary
Do not turn this into an enterprise-wide cataloging implementation. The goal is a Chapter 1 baseline that makes the asset concept concrete.
Completion gate
You can explain why each inventory row matters to the business and why it belongs in a Data Management baseline.
